About The Event
Chinese Calligraphy is a beautiful writing method and builds many of the same qualities as disciplined martial art training: Focus, concentration, precision and calmness. The calligraphy practiced in our class is a medium used to develop the deeper goals of focus, cultural appreciation, mental harmony, and relaxation. It is also a great way to further your knowledge of Chinese culture and arts.
Guests will learn basic calligraphy techniques, brush strokes, body position, hand position, to write a few Chinese characters on rice paper. They will learn the history and meaning of each Chinese character they learn and how to pronounce them in Chinese. Guests may also learn to write their name in Chinese, and practice. Once they feel comfortable and confident, they can write the new characters on a Chinese fan which they can bring home to display as artwork.
